SO DO YOURSELF A FAVOR...GET ON YOUR BIKE. ITS TIME TO PUT THE HAY IN THE BARN."
- RIDE DIRECTOR GLENN LAPOLT, 2014

The Blue Hill Cabin Challenge is a serious ride for serious cyclists—this is not an easy day in the saddle. Choose from four demanding routes: the Full Monty, where you get everything… mostly pain; the Originale, still tough, just slightly less punishing; and The Fondini, with two options, including the Fondo, an unsupported ride where you can drink beer the whole way (recommended). Feeling spicy? Take on the Full Monty with the Death Rattle Extension—forget about it.
The Full Monty and Originale routes are relentlessly steep, packed with Category 1–5 climbs. The signature challenge is the Blue Monster—a brutal 6-mile sustained ascent that pitches up to 18% in places. Along the way, riders are rewarded with stunning Catskill Mountain views, pristine mountain streams, and unforgettable local characters who look like they’ve stepped straight out of a Dickens novel.
With the exception of the Fondo, all routes are supported, with well-stocked aid stations offering fresh fruit, gels, bars, water, sports drink, and more. A sweep vehicle will also be on course. That said, this is a hardcore ride—come prepared with your own food, water, and the ability to take care of yourself.
Can you change a tire? If the answer is no, start practicing—or reconsider this ride. We’re serious.
The Cabin Grit Award is given to the rider who best embraces the spirit of the Cabin—chosen by the Ride Director for an all-around prodigious effort marked by badassery, perseverance, camaraderie, and true grit.
KOM and QOM honors go to the fastest combined times up Mohonk and Peekamoose. The Shackleton Award is reserved for the toughest of the tough: the fastest combined times on Sugarloaf, Mohonk, and Peekamoose. No bribes—legitimacy required.
While we enjoy a bit of friendly competition, remember: this is a ride, not a race. Awards are purely congratulatory, so don’t get reckless and don’t take it too seriously. If you’re too into yourself, this probably isn’t your ride. There’s usually a raffle at the end to round things out.
Some past winners claim they received a burlap sack of broken Soviet appliances instead of an actual award. The Ride Committee has no comment.

"This ride is worth three times the price I paid"
"As I raced up into the mountain pass I witnessed a giant Yeti family carrying Jeff into the tree line. As I lit out for home I wondered if I would ever see Jeff again?"
In 1986 a naked Glenn LaPolt streaked through the atmosphere at 3200 degrees. His Cabin pals were mystified with this feat of daring do. The CC was born that day.
"This agression will not stand, man...everybody should ride at their own pace."
